The Emmaus Community is an intentional Christian community that was founded in 2014 with roots that go back even earlier.

We draw upon monastic influences and live by a Rule of Life, have a simple worn 'habit' (a hoody and medallion) and commit to shared practices of prayer, presence and simplicity.

Influenced by Clare and Francis and the Franciscans, Benedict and Scholastica and the Benedictines, Susanna, John and Charles Wesley and the Methodists, Little Gidding, Dr. King and Sojourner Truth, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the confessing church, Oscar Romero and base communities, Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker Movement - and so many others in such a rich lineage of faith, Emmaus, as a community, seeks to live as a radical sign, servant and witness to God's in-breaking reign of love, grace, joy, peace, mercy and justice.

We pray together (in-person and some days hybrid / online) many weekdays, share meals, seek to be present for the common good in our neighbourhood and also gather with AbbeyChurch, which we support as one of our expressions.

Our current morning prayer schedule can be found here.

We are fully welcoming and affirming of 2SLGBTQ2IA+ folk and committed to being both deeply Christ-centred, Trinitarian - and inclusive / anti-oppressive.

We are accountable to both The United Church of Canada and The Anglican Church of Canada and welcome baptised Christians of all stripes to discern membership in Emmaus.

Our members are currently seeking a piece of land or a building to create a cooperative housing community hub  (we have already registered the "Burning Hearts Housing Co-op"), a space where we hope to live together going "from temple to table daily" alongside other partner communities.
